It was a bittersweet evening for varsity girls basketball starting guard Annika Corcoran '19 (pictured). Just hours before the NCAA Division I University of Detroit Mercy commit's high school playing career came to a close with a 47-44 loss to Perry High School in the OHSAA Division II District Finals, she learned she was named the Northeast Lakes All-District Player of the Year. As the team's leading scorer, the floor general had high hopes of making a return trip to the state tournament for the third year in a row, but it just wasn't meant to be. One year prior, almost to the day, Gilmour met Perry in the Lakeside High School gymnasium for the exact same scenario, only last year, the Lancers earned the district championship and went on to finish the season as the state runners-up. This year, despite Corcoran's team-high 20 points, which included four 3-pointers, the Lancers fell just shy of claiming another district title.

On the bright side, Corcoran and several of her teammates claimed prestigious honors. Besides earning player of the year, Corcoran was named to the First Team. Maddie Puletti '20 was a Third Team selection and Liz Bender '20 was an Honorable Mention pick. Furthermore, the Lancers, who finished second in the North Coast League (NCL) Blue Division, earned six individual player honors. Corcoran was voted NCL Blue Offensive Most Valuable Player, while Puletti and Bender were named to the First Team. Alexys Foster '19 and Jordan Nolan '19 were named to the Second Team and Honorable Mention honors went to Lauryn Stover '22 and Madeleine Finotti '21.

Gilmour finished the year with an overall record of 15-10 and an NCL record of 8-3. The Lancers earned NCL Blue runners-up honors, a Lakeside sectional championship and a Lakeside district runners-up honor. Additional local, regional and state individual honors will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
