Swimming: Lancers Do Well at State Championships

Varsity swimming competed in the OHSAA Division II State Championship at Canton McKinley High School this past week. The girls placed eighth out of 52 schools and the boys placed 18th out of 59. Overall, the girls and boys combined for a 10th-place finish out of 86 schools competing – a very impressive showing!

Gilmour began in the preliminaries and every Lancer swimmer that competed qualified for the finals. Here is how the swimmers finished in the finals:

Girls

Medley Relay – 5th place (Kylee Radigan '22, Cate O'Haimhirgin '20, Abby Meyer '21, Grace Valenza '20)

200 Free - Celeste Koerwitz '19– 16th place

200 IM - Valenza– 13th place

100 Free - Valenza – 16th place

500 Free - Koerwitz – 14th place

200 Free Relay – 9th place (Radigan, Anna Frank '20, Koerwitz, Valenza)

100 Backstroke - Meadow Hynd '19- 6th place

100 Breaststroke - O'Haimhirgin- 11th place

400 Free Relay - 8th place (Radigan, Hynd, Koerwitz, Meyer)

 

Boys

Medley Relay - 11th place (Matt Vanone '20, Carter DiVincenzo '19, Alex Figurella '22, Mike Cerer '19)

50 Free - Cerer- 9th place

100 Fly - Vanone- 16th place

200 Free Relay - 9th place (Vanone, DiVincenzo, Figurella, Cerer)

100 Backstroke - Vanone- 16th place

In additional swimming news, head coach John Fagan was named North Coast League Coach of the Year, while 10 Lancers earned First Team honors - Hynd, Koerwitz, Meyer, O'Haimhirgin, Radigan, Valenza, Cerer, DiVincenzo, Figurella and Vanone.
