Baseball: Lancers on Hot Streak

The varsity baseball team won all three of its games this past week. In the first North Coast League (NCL) contest in program history, the Lancers defeated St. Thomas Aquinas behind the strong pitching of Ben DeMell '21(2-0). He finished with 12 strikeouts in just over four innings pitched. In the second game of the week, the Lancers defeated Western Reserve Academy 2-1 in walk-off fashion as Jack Krebs '20 (pictured on the left) was able to draw the key walk in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the victory. On the mound, Ty Plucinsky '20 and Joey Hollis '20 paved the way for the win with strong outings. Finally, Gilmour had a huge win over St. Francis De Sales out of Toledo, defeating them 5-4. The Lancers battled for a full seven innings against the higher-level team, even after trailing 4-1. In an exciting conclusion, Nick Christopher '19 (pictured on the right) hit a walk-off double.

In other baseball news, the junior varsity team finished the week with a 10-5 win over Bay, an 11-0 win over WRA and a tough first loss of the season, 8-7 to St. Francis De Sales. The week was highlighted by strong pitching from Nathan Nootbaar '22Paddy Murphy '22 and a three-run home run by Sonny Iacampo '21 

The reserve team played its first game of the season, losing to Revere 18-14 despite strong hitting from Daniel Jevnikar '22, good base running from Kyle Laws '22 and a nice line drive from Will Mau '22.
