The varsity baseball team (12-1) added four more wins to its record this past week, twice defeating North Coast League (NCL) opponent Cleveland Central Catholic, in addition to conference foe St. Thomas Aquinas and independent opponent Highland. Even more impressive, the Lancers recorded three shutouts.

Matt Christopher '20 (pictured on the right) hit his second homerun of the season in grand-slam fashion in the first win against CCC. Ben DeMell '21 hit his first home run of the year in the same game. In the second game, Luke Shepherd '19 (pictured on the left) threw five innings of perfect baseball to earn the NCL shutout victory. He struck out four. In the matchup against St. Thomas Aquinas, Joe Hollis '20 threw a five-inning one-hitter and Garrett Olsen '20 led the offense with two RBI. In the final game of the week, DeMell helped pace the Lancers on the mound and at the plate against Highland. Offensively, he was able to pick up two key hits and two RBI and on the mound he allowed only one base runner and struck out 14 in seven innings of work.

At the junior varsity level, the Lancers (7-3) earned two wins this past week against Wickliffe and Streetsboro. In the Wickliffe game, Nathan Nootbaar '22 had two key hits and threw six strong innings on the mound. Paddy Murphy '22 added three hits, Mick Hopkins '22 added a triple and Sonny Iacampo '21 hit his second homerun of the season. In the victory over Streetsboro, Frankie Valenti '21 had two hits, Nathan Flaherty '22 had two hits, Hopkins added two RBI and Jimmy McCrone '21, just returning from injury, added three RBI.

The reserve team (2-2) lost to Chardon 4-2, in a tough battle that was highlighted by hits from Kyle Laws '22 and Nootbaar. Nootbaar's drive just missed clearing the left field fence, forcing him to settle for a double.
