Football: Lancers Win Home Opener

The varsity football team entertained a large crowd this past Saturday as it earned its first win of the season playing for the first time on the newly renovated turf at Weber Stadium. The Lancers defeated Warrensville Heights 21-6. Gilmour held a 7-0 lead at halftime before scoring its final two touchdowns of the afternoon in the third quarter. Santino Harper '23 rushed for a game-high 186 yards with two TDs, while the offensive line of Christian Fowlkes '20Josh Miavitz '20Jimmy McCrone '21CJ Johnson '22 and Hunter Sebulsky '23 also helped lead the way offensively. Dan Jevnikar '22 provided a much-needed spark in the second half at quarterback. 

Defensively, the Lancers played very well. Aidan Muchnicki '20 (pictured on the left) had a team-high 17 tackles with one interception. Rocco Hice '23 (pictured on the right) earned his first high school start and recorded 12 tackles. Miavitz totaled eight tackles and one sack. 

Gilmour is now 1-1 on the season headed into the "Battle for the Helmet" against Hawken School. That game is set for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff on Saturday, September 14 at Gilmour's Weber Stadium.
