The Gilmour Academy varsity football team is now 1-1 on the season after a 28-16 loss at home to Warrensville Heights this past Saturday. The Tigers held a 6-0 lead after the first quarter before the Lancers put together a strong offensive showing. Gilmour scored 16 unanswered points in the second stanza to take a 16-6 lead into the break. Unfortunately, the Lancers were unable to score in the second half.

Last week's News-Herald Player of the Week Santino Harper '23 rushed for 66 yards on 11 carries. He also had one reception and was part of a two-point conversion along with Thomas Richardson '22 (pictured on the left), who rushed for a team-high 77 yards on 13 carries with one touchdown.

Dan Jevnikar '22 had one reception for a team-high 19 yards.

On the defensive side, Rocco Hice '23 (pictured on the right) had a team-leading 13 total tackles, while Mick Hopkins '22 totaled nine and Jake Kavcic '24 had eight. Charlie Shepherd '21 had a team-high three tackles for a loss, while Jevnikar had two for a loss.

The Lancers will look to rebound this week with a game against Trinity. That contest was originally scheduled on the road, but has since been moved to the Gilmour campus on Friday, Sept. 11 at 5 p.m. Spectators are limited to only two per player, but fans are encouraged to watch the livestream at www.gilmour.org/live. A replay of the game will also be available for 24 hours.
