The varsity boys lacrosse team (7-3) went head-to-head with some top opponents in the area this past week. Despite losing both contests, the Lancers held their own as they prepare for the upcoming postseason. Gilmour opened the week on the road at Archbishop Hoban against the 13-1 host program. Missing a few key players, the Lancers remained competitive deep into the fourth quarter, eventually dropping a 9-4 decision. Goalie Kessel Richards '21 was phenomenal between the pipes, stopping 18 shots from a Hoban offense that was averaging 13 goals per game. Midfielder Cisco Martinez '19 was all over the field as usual, scooping up 10 ground balls and scoring two goals. Midfielder Robby Belknap '21 (pictured on the right) recorded one goal and one assist. Attackman Jesse Galassi '19 added a tally, while fellow attackman Tate Simpson '21 contributed an assist.

In the second game of the week, Gilmour traveled to St. Ignatius to take on their blue squad. The Lancers got off to a slow start, falling behind 8-2 at halftime. They played a much more even game the rest of the way, but could not make up the difference, losing 13-6. Galassi, Belknap and Lee Sullivan '19 (pictured on the left) all netted two goals each. Midfielder Ricky Roberts '20 added one assist as Richards recorded 12 saves in goal.

The Lancers have a few remaining regular-season games before beginning postseason play. The Lancers earned the number-five seed in the 20-team OHSAA Division II Region 6 and, as a result, will host number-17 seed Cardinal Mooney on Monday, May 13 at 5 p.m. in Gilmour's Weber Stadium. There is an admission price of $7 for seniors, adults and students to this regional playoff game. No GA Family Athletic passes will be accepted in accordance to OHSAA regulations. Click here for a complete look at the playoff bracket.
