Top boys lacrosse state accolades were recently released and Gilmour varsity player Cisco Martinez '19 was among the list of honorees. The starting Lancer midfielder was named OHSAA Division II All-Ohio Honorable Mention for his efforts this season, which included 32 goals, 14 assists, 46 points and 72 ground balls in 11 games.

He was also selected to the Region 6 First-Team and the North Coast League (NCL) First Team. Martinez logged one of the most successful seasons for a Gilmour player in recent program history. The natural lefty had a knack for scoring, but always kept his head up and looked to feed open teammates. According to Lancer Head Coach Jim Scully, the team captain's most remarkable attributes were his stamina and ability to win ground balls in traffic in order to secure opportunities for the Lancer offense to score. He ran tirelessly and made plays all over the field on a consistent basis, and was also a player who was well-respected by coaches, teammates and officials.

"Cisco led by action every minute of game play as well as during practice. Players could easily see how he balanced a relentless will to compete with an ability to win with kindness, consideration and compassion," said Scully.

Martinez's season was cut short due to an injury sustained during a game at Padua Franciscan near the end of the year. He is expected to make a full recovery by the fall. At the moment, he is weighing his options for the future, which include playing junior hockey or attending either The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. or Boston University.

In addition to playing varsity lacrosse for two seasons at Gilmour, he was also a two-year member of the Gilmour boys prep hockey team.
