Boys Soccer: Varsity Wins Two as Slabe Brothers Help Pace Offense

The varsity boys soccer team recorded its first wins of the season, defeating both Wickliffe and Chardon. The victories improved Gilmour's overall record to 2-2-1. The Lancers first earned a 3-1 win against Wickliffe before shutting out Chardon 3-0. Kessel Richards '21Bowdan Slabe '20 (pictured on the right) and Kyle Laws '22 scored their first goals of the season against Wickliffe. Against Chardon, it was the Slabe brothers doing the damage as Bowdan Slabe scored twice and Colton Slabe '20 (pictured on the left) netted one. Conner Underwood '22 had two assists in the game. Freshman John Stack '23 played all 80 minutes against Chardon, anchoring a defense that kept the Hilltoppers off the score board and also gave Matt Beck '21 his second shutout of the year. 
 
At the junior varsity level, Gilmour won two games this past week, scoring a total of 10 goals while giving up only one to its opponents. Gilmour recorded a shutout against Wickliffe 4-0 before defeating Chardon 6-1. Dorjan Flowers '23 had two goals, both assisted by Eli Swirsky '23, versus Wickliffe. Joe Roddy '21 scored his first goal of the season as goalkeepers Jake Howse '20 and Jonathon Berkovich '22 recorded a clean sheet. Against Chardon, Tate Simpson '21 had three goals and Swirsky totaled one goal and three assists. The JV team is now 2-1-1 overall.
