Boys Tennis: New Courts Make Debut with Blessing and Wins

The varsity boys tennis team is off to a great start this season winning its first two matches in the opening week of competition. The Lancers won 4-1 on the road against Cleveland Heights to start the 2019 campaign. Singles players Jimmy Zhou '20Robert Sullivan '22 and Dominic Alexander '19 won their individual matches and then the first doubles pair of Sam Sullivan '19 and Charlie Valenti '19 was also victorious.
 
Gilmour then followed with a 3-2 win against Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin. The duo of Michael Sullivan '19 and Teddy Fitzgerald '21 recorded its first win of the season.
 
The junior varsity team also began official competition this past week. Charlie Frech '21 and Richard Jones '20 had a big doubles win against Cleveland Heights. Singles players Matt Vargo '21 and Clinton Zupanc '21 are continuing to show steady improvement. Zupanc won a three-set marathon at first singles against NDCL. Additional promise is being shown by first-year players Carter DiVincenzo '19Danny Laurita '19Michael Soloman '19 and Armand DiPuccio '19.
 
In additional tennis news, the Lancer Courts are up and running. The construction of the new site finished at the conclusion of the girls tennis season this past fall. This is the first full season of play on the courts. Father John Blazek came out and led an official blessing on the courts prior to the first official match.
