Track & Field: VASJ Meet and Big Ox Results; Rodgers Named NH Player of the Week

The varsity track and field team began the week at the Villa Angela-St. Joseph meet. Although there was no official scoring for the afternoon, some highlights included solid long jump performances from Annika Corcoran '19 and CJ Charleston '19, as well as a winning high jump effort from Brinn MacLellan '21. The distance crew saw Alannah Barton '19 and Caitrina Barton '21 reunited and Mary Lombardo '22 ran her first 3200 after running a solid 800 and 4x800 relay. Connor Gerspacher '19 led the boys 1600 while Alex Figurella '22 had a big PR running his first 3200. Tim Diemer '19 and Bryson Simpson '20 were great in the 800, while sprinters were led by Andre Rodgers '21 (pictured on the left), who was great in the 100 and 400. Another highlight of the day was Sean Hodges '22 stepping up at the last minute to run his first 400 and the 4x400. The girls sprints were led by Madison Olsen '20 and Kaleigh McNamara '22, with Kai Logan '22 running a solid 100.

The Lancers finished out the week at the Big Ox Invitational. Rodgers turned in a standout performance, winning Sprint MVP honors. He won the 200 with a PR of 22.38 seconds, was first in the 400 and then recorded a PR of 22.38 seconds to win the 200. He then came back to anchor the third-place 4x400 relay. His outstanding effort also earned him News-Herald Player of the Week honors.

The Lancers were led in distance by Tyler Clark '19, who won the 3200; Diemer, who won the 800; and Katie Engle '19 (pictured on the right), who earned Distance MVP honors with a strong 1600 followed by a fourth-place finish in the 800 and as part of the 4x400.

Other highlights included Craig Wilson '20 running a 2:08 in his first 800 for the boys 4x800, and Olsen placing fourth in the 400 and 200, while anchoring the 4x400. McNamara earned eighth in the 400 with a PR. In the field, Jordan Nolan '19 jumped to third place in her first meet back from injury. Makenzie Palinski '21 had a PR in discus with 108'4" for third, and was fourth in shot. Ryan Gondek '19 had a season-best 121' 10 in discus, and Charleston won the long jump with another 22' leap.
