Track & Field: Diemer Named NH Player of the Week and Lancers Shine in Day One of NCL Meet

What a great past few days it's been for the varsity track & field program. First, Tim Diemer '19 (pictured on the right) was named News-Herald Player of the Week for April 25 on the heels of his performances at the Trinity Invitational and the Beachwood Invitational. At Trinity, he ran an area-best 1:56.88 in the 800 while being a part of the runner-up 4x400 relay team. At Beachwood, he won the 800 with a meet record 1:59.20.

Next, the Lancers went on to shine in Day 1 of the North Coast League (NCL) Meet held at Padua Franciscan High School on April 30. Diemer was part of the championship 4x800 relay team with Tyler Clark '19Connor Gerspacher '19 and Nathan Reichard '20 that beat all teams in both divisions with a time of 8:09.60 (second best time in all of OHSAA Division III). Other top male performers in first-day action of the conference championship included Andre Rodgers '21 as the top qualifier in the 100, 200 and 400, as well as Ryan Gondek '19 finishing third in the discus and CJ Johnson '22 finishing fifth in the discus.   

For the girls, the 4x800 relay of Katie Engle '19Jorja Hlifka '20Mary Lombardo '22 and Nina Padanilam '22 recorded a season-best time of 10:06.99 to earn the conference title. Annika Corcoran '19 and Jocelyn Carter '21 finished one and two, respectively, in the long jump. MacKenzie Palinski '21 (pictured on the left) successfully defended her NCL shot put title and was joined by Bridgit Terry '21 who finished seventh in the event. Karah Henderson '22 was also the top qualifier in the 100.
