Track & Field: Day Two of NCL Meet Results; Girls and Boys Win NCL White Division Championships

After turning in strong performances in day one of the North Coast League (NCL) championship meet, the Lancers returned for even more spectacular efforts on day two in order to run away with NCL White Division Championship titles for both the boys and girls.  

The boys team totaled 168 points to earn the top spot out of six total teams. Jack Kosar '19 started things off in the shot put with a winning throw of 46-06.25. Garret Tomasek '20, a usual distance runner turned new entrant into the world of hurdles, recorded a PR in the 110 hurdles to win the event. He then took second in the 300 hurdles as Nik Socrates '21 was fifth in both events. Andre Rodgers '21 won the 100, 200 and 400, while also competing in a leg of the 4x400. Also in the 400, Nathan Reichard '20 kicked it into high gear to help the Lancers take second place. CJ Charleston '19 won the long jump in a meet record 21-11.00 as fellow senior Tim Diemer '19 won the 800 meters. Another strong performance was turned in by Tyler Clark '19 who won the 1600 in an area-best time of 4:24.59. He also finished second in the 800 and then won the 3200 in 10:10:09, followed by teammate Connor Gerspacher '19 in second. In the 4x400, Gilmour won the race with the second fastest time in the state of 3:29.35. Lead-off runner Craig Wilson '20 ran a 52-second split. He was followed by Rodgers, Reichard and Diemer who helped the Lancers close out the meet 62 points ahead of its nearest competitors.

The girls won the team title with 195 points, which was 88 points better than their nearest opponent. MVP was Karah Henderson '22 (pictured on the left), who won the 100 hurdles in 15.80, the 100 meters in 12.94 and the 300 hurdles in 48.37. Distance stalwart Katie Engle '19 won the 1600 in 5:16.13, as well as the 800 meters in a Division III regional-best time of 2:23.45. Mackenzie Palinski '21 not only won the discus, but she set another school record with a throw of 119-09. Madison Olsen '20 then won the 400, the 200 and ran a leg on the second-place 4x200 and the winning 4x400 along with Henderson, Jorja Hflika '20 and Kaleigh McNamara '22

The Lancers then returned to the track at the Gilmour Academy 25thAnnual Miele Meet held at Brush High School. The girls won the meet and the boys were second. Gilmour winners included Olsen in the 400 and Henderson in the 100 hurdles as she earned meet MVP honors. Engle won the Miele mile in 4:18 and then came back and won the 800 meters. The Field MVP was Palinski who won the shot put and was second in the discus. Hlifka ran a brilliant anchor leg as the girls won the 4x800 relay with Nina Padanilam '22Alannah Barton '19 and Mary Lombardo '22 also running great legs. Annika Corcoran '19 won the long jump. 

Boys winners were Gerspacher, who won the Miele Mile, Clark in the 800 and Ryan Gondek '19 (pictured on the right), who was the Field MVP with a win in the shot put.
