It was a 1-1 week for the varsity softball team as the Lancers raised almost $900 for a great cause. Gilmour first played North Coast League (NCL) foe Trinity in a battle amongst the top two teams in the conference. Gilmour lost this round 4-1, after previously beating the Trojans 9-5. In this past week's game against Trinity, the Lancers could muster only four hits, two of which came from Frankie Coan '20. The loss put GA at 5-1 in the NCL.
Gilmour then went out and defeated Lawrence School 15-5 in a fundraiser game to raise awareness and money for the non-profit organization Autism Speaks. Nicole Shipley '20, Christina Moore '20 and Maggie Dean '22 had two hits apiece. Maggie Goff '21 earned the win on the mound, throwing all five innings with just one hit allowed.
More important than the win, the Lancers honored special guest Michael Hansen, brother of Mark Hansen '21, prior to the game. He is the inspiration for this special game, which is in its 10th year. Joey Nook, son of boys prep hockey assistant coach Joe Nook, threw out the first pitch and served as honorary game captain for the day. He also received the team's Golden Game Ball, which is presented to a Gilmour player of the game after every win.
