The girls prep hockey team attended its first league weekend in Burlington, Vt. and played some tough competition. In the first matchup, Gilmour took on Rothesay Netherwood School (RNS), a strong Eastern Canadian team. The Lancers took a 1-0 lead on a beautiful power play goal by Julija Blazinsek '21 with assists from Alaina Giampetro '22 and Quinn Hartmetz '21. RNS brought the pressure for the remainder of the game, but Kristiana Apsite '20 stood tall in net. In the final seconds, RNS pulled the goalie to gain the advantage on the attack and scored on a wild scramble play in front of the net to knot the final score at one.

In game two, the Lancers played Nichols School from Buffalo, N.Y. Gilmour went down 1-0 early in the game on a breakaway goal in the first few minutes. The team remained calm and fought back to tie the score on a goal by Lexi Nguyen '20 that was assisted by Giampetro. Hope Crisafi '20 made 25 saves in net and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

In the third game of the weekend, a very strong and skilled Northwood School (N.Y.) overpowered the Lancers, who struggled on the penalty kill and surrendered all five goals while shorthanded. Then in the final game, Gilmour fell to Rice Prep (Vt.) 4-0. This included an open-net goal in the final minutes as the Lancers pushed for a score. Overall, the Lancers struggled to score in the final two games, but it wasn't for a lack of chances. The team is disappointed in the final 0-2-2 outcome for the weekend, but is using it for motivation during future league play in January at Cornell University.
