The Lancer Athletic Department recently announced the hiring of Anton Trifonovs as the head coach of the varsity girls soccer team. Trifonovs brings extensive coaching experience to the program. He has coached with the Development Academy since 2017, with CSA Impact United since 2009, and is the director of goalkeeping at Force Sports, where he has coached since 2010. He has been a member of the Olympic Development Program's state, regional and national staff since 2015. Trifonovs holds a USSF B license and a NSCAA advanced national goalkeeping diploma.

Trifonovs served as the head coach of the varsity girls soccer team at Hawken School from 2014-2018. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach for the Lakeland Community College men's soccer team.

Trifonovs played seven years of professional soccer in Latvia and Estonia. He played on Latvia's U17 and U19 national teams in the UEFA Euro Cup, Latvia's U21 national team in the FIFA World Cup and the Olympics, and Latvia's senior national team in the Baltic Nation Cup.

Trifonovs said of the opportunity, "For me, the motivation for leading Gilmour girls soccer is fairly simple — it is the players. This program will not be about me as a leader; it will be about the players I lead."

Gilmour's Athletic Director Sean O'Toole said of Trifonovs' hiring, "We are so excited to have Coach Trifonovs at the helm of our girls soccer program. He is a true student of the gameof soccer who brings a wealth of coaching and player experience. Our girls soccer program is strong and I can't wait to see what these girls are able to do under his tutelage."
