The Varsity B girls tennis team is midway through an electrifying season that has welcomed some exciting new players to its existing core of dedicated veterans. While the progress made in player development has not yet translated to the win-loss column, it can be clearly seen in the game scores and in the competitiveness of individual points. Currently, the team's focus has shifted away from basic stroke form to an emphasis on game strategy and net play. Head coach Rob Fowler says there will always be more work to do, but he is pleased to see the team pushing themselves at every game and practice.

There have been many highlights so far this season, including:

Maggie Grunden '21 (pictured on the left) is the mid-season MVP with a record of 5-2. She has gutted out three tough three-set victories in doubles play against Beaumont, CVCA and Magnificat - each with a different partner. Lilly Kosar '21 (pictured on the right), Anna Martin '21 and Natalie Figurella '23 paired with her in those respective matches.

Kosar has demonstrated stellar net play and a powerful serve, which both have been instrumental in individual wins against Beaumont, Mentor and Orange.

With two victories apiece, Figurella and Clara Morgan '22 have continued to make great strides toward more consistent and assertive play. Both defeated their opponents from Bay handily, Morgan with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep and Figurella with a 6-0, 6-2 effort.

Against CVCA, Morgan and Lauren Kastelic '22 literally "flipped the script" in their second sets with Morgan winning 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 and Kastelic winning 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.

First-year Lancers True Pyle '23 and Abbie Edmondson '23 recorded their first wins of the season as a doubles team. They played with grit and confidence as they defeated Magnificat.

Captains Caitlyn Compres '20 and Megan Whalen '20 notched their first win of the year against Orange, making short work of their opponents. Both players continue to bring energy and humor in their leadership roles as they hype up teammates at every opportunity.
