Lancer Varsity Gymnastics Concludes Season at Sectional Meet

The Lancer varsity gymnastics team finished their 2020-21 season at the Ohio High School Athletic Association Sectional Meet on Saturday, February 13 at the Summit County Fairgrounds.

The team, composed of senior Brinn MacLellan '21, sophomore Clare Peterson '23 and freshmen Jazminn Bremer '24 and Ellie Goff '24 placed 10th at the meet. Although their season came to an end, the Lancers had several highlights and strong performances throughout the year. Peterson placed at several meets during the regular season, including her notable performance at the Kenston High School meet on Friday, January 15, when she earned top finishes on bars (second place), vault (third place) and all-around (second place). At the same meet, MacLellan earned third place on floor.

Head coach Melissa Gillen had the opportunity to reflect on the season, and each member of the squad.

"The Gilmour gymnastics team was an honor to coach this year. With two new freshmen, a sophomore and a senior, they managed to find the connection as a team quickly. Though we suffered some injuries that prevented us from competing as a full team much of the season, they proved they had become a family and competitive team. Clare had a fantastic season, placing in the top three at most meets. Brinn was a huge asset to the team as well, with multiple placings on both bars and beam throughout the season. Jazmine demonstrated she is a great addition to the team, as she placed on beam and floor at multiple meets this year. Unfortunately, Ellie suffered an injury that prevented her from competing for most of the season, but she was definitely a great team player. We are sad to lose Brinn next season, and will miss the energy, work ethic and discipline she displays daily. I am excited to see all that this young team has to show everyone in the future," said Gillen.

Congratulations on a fantastic season, Lancers!
