Boys Basketball: Lancers Victorious in Home Opener

The varsity boys basketball team began the 2019-20 season with a bang, scoring an impressive 92 points in the home opener against Cornerstone Christian Academy, which totaled only 42 points on the night. Ben DeMell '22 (pictured on the right) earned his first career varsity start and turned in a dominating performance. He led the Lancers in scoring with 19 points and had eight rebounds. Connor O'Toole '20 (pictured on the left) paced the guard play with 17 points, including a four-for-six effort from the three-point line, and also added five assists. Backcourt mate Andre Rodgers '21 chipped in five assists. Joe Hollis '20 came off the bench to score eight points, going a perfect two-for-two from the three-point line, while also totaling five rebounds. In their first career varsity games, Ryan Mueller '22 added seven points and seven rebounds and Brandon Rose '23 contributed eight points, four rebounds and two steals. Vinny Bandwen '21 also scored eight points. Matt Benisek '21Michael Snelling '21 and Teddy FitzGerald '21 combined for 10 of the team's fourth-quarter points as the Lancers won each quarter over the Patriots. 
 
At the junior varsity level, Gilmour raced out to a 24-point first-quarter lead, before going on to win the season opener 82-31 versus Cornerstone Christian. All 11 players scored in the contest with three players reaching double figures, including Adisa Molton '23 with 13, Rose with 12 and Dorjan Flowers '23 with 11. Lucas Grover  '22 made two first quarter threes in his Gilmour playing debut, while fellow sophomore Nathan Flaherty '22 went seven-for-eight from the charity line. Robert Sullivan '22 and Michael DiPuccio '22 led the Lancer press, forcing Patriot turnovers all night. Ross Halloran '22 and Viraj Jain '22 scored their first points of their high school careers in the fourth quarter.
