The varsity boys basketball team may have had only one game last week, but it was definitely worth the wait as the Lancers upset local favorite Villa Angela-St. Joseph 78-64 on Friday night. After a back-and-forth first quarter, Gilmour took a commanding 12-point lead into the second quarter, never relinquishing the advantage the remainder of the game. The junior duo of Andre Rodgers '21 (pictured on the left) and Ben DeMell '21 paced the scoring, each tallying 19 points.

Rodgers was quiet in the opening half, but stepped up big and scored all of his points in the second half when Connor O'Toole '20, one of the team's top scorers, was forced to the sidelines in foul trouble. Rodgers took command of the offense and helped extend the Lancer lead to 21 at the midpoint of the third quarter. Garrett Olsen '20 (pictured on the right) gave an outstanding performance on both ends, hitting a trio of three-point field goals en route to a nine-point, nine-rebound night. Ian Miller '20 hounded the VASJ back court, while Michael Snelling '21 came in off the bench in the second half to provide length on the defensive front line to cover the Vikings high-octane backcourt. O'Toole finished the night with 15 points and four assists, and also had three triples of his own.

At the junior varsity level, the Lancers never trailed and came away with their second consecutive home victory, defeating VASJ 61-47. The team combined for nine 3-pointers with Lucas Grover '22 and Adisa Molton '23 each totaling three on their way to leading the Lancer offense with 16 points apiece. Brandon Rose '23, in only two quarters of play, added nine points, while Nathan Flaherty '22 continued the hot outside shooting with a pair of treys. Robert Sullivan '22 and Michael DiPuccio '22 came off the bench to provide toughness on the defensive end, while Dorjan Flowers '23 controlled the floor game, adding a team-high five assists to go along with three steals.

In the freshman game, which was the first of the season for the Lancers, Gilmour came up short, losting to VASJ 54-45. Mason Albano '23 led all scorers with a total of 16 points. Ian Baird '23 contributed 10 points and eight rebounds, while Chad Plucinsky '23 had eight points, six rebounds and two assists. Jacob Lowery '23 helped cut the team's halftime deficit to single digits by hitting a 3-pointer to end the first half. Tommy Moe '23 led an inspired defensive effort in the fourth quarter, while Marcus Berrios '23 hit a deep three to dwindle the Viking lead to six points late in the final stanza.
