The varsity boys basketball team reached a very challenging stretch of its schedule during the Christmas Break. The Lancers faced several teams with winning records and came away with several tough losses.

Vinny Bandwen '21 scored a career-high 17 points in a 78-51 loss to rival University School on New Year's Eve, while Andre Rodgers '21 tallied a career-high eight assists. The Battle of SOM featured strong defensive play from Michael Snelling '21 and Ian Miller '20 (pictured on the right), which kept the Lancers in the game until late.

Gilmour bounced back against Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin with a dominating first half and led by 16 at the halfway point. Twelve different Lancers scored in the win with Garrett Olsen '20 leading the way with 13 points. Brandon Rose '23 contributed eight points and five rebounds, while Ryan Mueller '22 added six points and five rebounds.

Then in an early Sunday morning game against Glenville High School, as part of the Play-By-Play Scholastic Classic at Euclid High School, the Lancers lost to an extremely athletic squad 62-57. Connor O'Toole '20 (pictured on the left) was named game Most Valuable Player after scoring 12 points. Ben DeMell '21 also added 12 points along with a team-best seven rebounds.

At the junior varsity level, the Lancers advanced to a 7-2 record after nice wins against University School and NDCL this past week. Matt Benisek '21 led a strong effort on both ends of the floor against the Preppers, adding 15 points to go along with five steals. He duplicated that performance against NDCL. Nathan Flaherty '22 had five 3-pointers in the past week, while Lucas Grover '22 and Nathan Nootbaar '22 controlled the paint. Another highlight for the team was a combined 35 points by Adisa Molton '23 in the past three games. The performance included six 3-pointers.

At the freshman level, Gilmour is on a four-game winning streak with leading scorer Charlie Snelling '23 recording double figures in each contest. Marcus Berrios '23 has also scored 16 and 12 points in the most recent two games, respectively, with his perimeter sharpshooting. Chad Plucinsky '23 continues to play a great overall game, scoring 10 points with eight rebounds in a win versus West Geauga. In a victory over Glenville, Dorjan Flowers '23 scored 12 points and had five assists, while Jackson Wahl '23 contributed 11 points and four steals. Jacob Lowery '23 paced the Lancers on the boards in a win over the Tarblooders with seven, helping the team improve to 7-2 on the season.
