It was a big moment for the varsity boys basketball team last week. For the first time since the early 90s, the Lancers defeated fellow Holy Cross school Archbishop Hoban 51-37. Gilmour held the lead the entire game, including an impressive 16-point advantage after a 19-3 opening run. The team's defense was outstanding all four quarters and GA won the battle of the boards, outrebounding the Knights 38-24. Ben DeMell '21 (pictured on the right), Ryan Mueller '22 (pictured on the left) and Garrett Olsen '20 had six rebounds apiece. Connor O'Toole '20 paced the Lancers on the offensive end with 11 points and eight assists as DeMell added 11 points.

At the junior varsity level, Gilmour displayed an unwillingness to give up, even after trailing by as many as 23 in the second quarter. The Lancers battled all the way back to cut the Knight's lead to just one, but eventually lost the game by four points. Matt Benisek '21 led the comeback charge with 20 points, followed by Nathan Nootbaar '22 with 10 and Adisa Molton '23 with nine. Dorjan Flowers '23 played a tremendous floor game, contributing five assists.

At the freshman level, the Lancers were on the road against Villa Angela-St. Joseph. Gilmour avenged an earlier loss at home by defeating the Vikings in their territory, 53-34. Charlie Snelling '23 recorded a double double with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Mason Albano '23 contributed 12 points, five steals and four assists. Chad Plucinsky '23 did a great job on the glass, pulling down seven rebounds. Ian Baird '23 also played an awesome game, scoring 10 points and grabbing six rebounds. Cleveland Central Catholic then got the best of the Lancers in a 60-46 defeat. Albano hit three 3-pointers en route to a 15-point night, while Baird added 11 points and seven rebounds. Jackson Wahl '23 totaled four steals and three assists.
