Boys Basketball: Exciting Week for the Lancers

The Gilmour boys basketball program turned the tables on Holy Name and Lake Catholic this year, making it an exciting week for Lancer Nation. After getting swept by both programs last year, Gilmour turned in a combined 5-1 weekend that included a 3-0 sweep of Holy Name. 
 
At the varsity level, the Lancers defeated the then 9-3 Green Wave 79-76. All five starters scored in double figures with Connor O'Toole '20 recording a season-high 25 points to go along with a season-best six 3-pointers. He hit the go-ahead triple with just 38 seconds to go in the game. Michael Snelling '21 (pictured on the right) led the defensive efforts as the Lancers owned the rebounding stat line 36-28. Other notable performances included Garrett Olsen '20 (pictured on the left) with 10 points and six rebounds, Ian Miller '20 with four assists and four steals and Andre Rodgers '21 with six assists. 
 
In a tough 64-61 overtime defeat against Lake Catholic to end the week, Ben DeMell '21 led the team with 16 points and seven rebounds. Vinny Bandwen '21Ryan Mueller '22 and Snelling all hit critical 3-point shots coming off the bench, as the Lancers hit a season-high nine 3-point field goals.
 
At the junior varsity level, Matt Benisek '21Adisa Molton '23 and Dorjan Flowers '23 combined for 51 points enroute to a 13-point victory over Holy Name. The trio hit a combined eight 3-pointers. Nathan Nootbaar '22 collected 12 rebounds, while Lucas Grover '22 scored eight points and had seven rebounds. Gilmour then recorded a 17-point victory against Lake Catholic 60-43. Molton led all scorers with 21 points in just three quarters alone. Flowers added 17 points and six assists, while Nootbaar contributed nine points and nine rebounds. Benisek had seven points and five rebounds. 
 
At the freshman level, the Lancers never trailed and earned a dominating 66-48 win against Holy Name. Ian Baird '23Charlie Snelling '23 and Mason Albano '23 led the team, combining for 35 points and 22 rebounds. Tommy Moe '23 came off the bench to score eight, while Chad Plucinsky '23 netted 10 points. On Saturday night, the team battled to a 45-40 victory against Lake Catholic after scoring the game's final six points in the last two minutes. Snelling scored a game-high 20 points, followed by Baird with 10 and Plucinsky with seven. Jackson Wahl '23 added two steals and five assists.
