Varsity weekly recap (written by head coach Dan DeCrane): After a 14-day layoff, the Lancers battled one of the hottest teams in Northeast Ohio - Garfield Heights, who had won seven straight games before traveling to Gilmour on Saturday, February 6. After the Lancers led for much of the first half, the game went into a 41-41 deadlock heading into the fourth quarter. Gilmour had momentum offensively, as they hit clutch shots down the stretch and made nine three-pointers in the contest, but the Lancers came up one possession short as time expired and lost to the Bulldogs 55-53. Senior Ben DeMell '21 led the way with 19 points and eight rebounds, while fellow senior Andre Rodgers '21 chipped in with a career-high nine assists against Garfield Heights. Junior Ryan Mueller '22 tallied 14 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore Adisa Molton '23 had 11 points, including three three-pointers, and three assists. Senior Matt Benisek '21 hit two huge three-pointers in the second half to keep the Lancers within striking distance late in the game.
Junior Varsity weekly recap (written by head coach Isaiah Matthews): In the first game back from a pause, the Lancers played a tough Garfield Heights team that possessed a lot of size and athleticism. Tim Lee '24 and Jackson Wahl '23 both led the team in scoring with nine points while Nick Speyer '24 chipped in with six points off the bench. The team has fought through a lot of adversity, and continues to adapt to the ever-changing schedule that this season has brought the Lancers. Despite the changes, the team continues to enjoy the game of basketball, and their resiliency and determination is clearly displayed each time they take the floor for competition. The Lancers are looking forward to continuing to grow during their next week of contests.
Freshman weekly recap (written by head coach Joe Biven): The Lancers traveled to Benedictine to take on the Bengals on Wednesday, February 3. Gilmour came up short in a back-and-forth game, losing by a score of 47-39. The Lancers were led in scoring by Joe Delaney '24 and Kevin Flaherty '24, who had 10 points each. Next, the Lancers hit the road again, this time traveling to Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin on Friday, February 5. Gilmour trailed by 10 points with four minutes remaining in regulation, and were able to come back and defeat the Lions 52-48 on the heels of an incredible defensive effort late in the game. Nick Speyer '24 led all scorers with 22 points on the day. On Saturday, February 6, the Lancers hosted the Bulldogs of Garfield Heights. The Bulldogs went on to win 61-36. The Lancers were led by Flaherty in scoring with 10 points.
