Four members of the Gilmour Academy boys basketball team earned recognition recently as the program's memorable season came to a close last weekend.
Four Lancers earned spots on the Northeast Lakes All-District Team as selected by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association.
Ryan Mueller '22 was named All-District Second Team while Ben DeMell '21, Adisa Molton '23 and Brandon Rose '23 each claimed Honorable Mention recognition.
After a disjointed regular season due to the pandemic, Gilmour's varsity team had its best postseason success in more than 25 years.
After earning an opening-round bye, Gilmour comfortably won its Sectional Final over Coventry High School (74-48).
The Lancers then upset the top seed in their district, Warrensville Heights High School, when Andre Rodgers '21 hit a three-pointer that beat the buzzer and lifted GA to a 47-46 victory. The Lancers then won another close game, claiming the rubber match against Padua Franciscan 42-38 to win their first District title since 1997.
The magical run was not over yet. Gilmour came back from a double-digit deficit to defeat Chaney High School 59-52, using a standout performance from DeMell, as it advanced to a Regional Final for only the second time in program history. Gilmour came up one win short of the state Final Four as the Lancers fell to powerhouse St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in the Regional Final.
Coming off one of the best seasons in recent years in head coach Dan DeCrane's third year at the helm, the Lancers will undoubtedly be looking forward to next season as they return three of their four All-District honorees.
