Isaiah Matthews is in his third season on the staff of the Gilmour Academy boys basketball program.

Matthews spent the past two seasons as the junior varsity head coach while also assisting with the varsity team. Matthews stepped down as the JV head coach prior to the 2021-22 season as he accepted a new full-time job, but he will continue to assist the varsity team for the coming season.

In his two seasons leading the JV team, Matthews directed the Lancers to a 23-13 overall record.

Immediately prior to his arrival at Gilmour, Matthews served as a student assistant for one year with the men’s basketball program at his alma mater, Hiram College, and was the head coach of the Akron Bobcats, a seventh grade AAU boys basketball team.

As a player at Hiram, Matthews was a three-year varsity team member, helping the Terriers post a 19-8 record during the 2015-16 season. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2018.

During his playing days at the high school level, he was a three-year varsity member at East Ridge High School in Florida, earning district player of the year honors during the 2013-14 season.

Matthews is a native of Clermont, Fla., and currently resides in Euclid, Ohio.
