Gilmour, Swinarski Win District Titles

Gilmour, Swinarski Win District Titles

The Gilmour Academy boys golf team, led by Alex Swinarski '22, won the OHSAA Northeast District title held at Tannenhauf Golf Club this past week.

With their performance, the Lancers qualified for the OHSAA State Tournament for the 24th time in program history. While this is the third consecutive season in which Gilmour has qualified for the State tournament, it is the first District championship for the Lancers in the past five seasons.

The team title was not the only hardware that Gilmour brought home. Swinarski put forth an incredible round of 71 to place first in the 54-player field. Finishing one shot under par, he was three strokes clear of those tying for second place.

Swinarski's 71 helped Gilmour post a winning score of 315, nine shots ahead of the team runner-up. The tournament was played on a 6,694-yard, par-72 course.

Eric Anton '22 got out of the gate well, shooting a 38 on the front nine, and finished with Gilmour's second-best score. He tied for 10th place overall with his round of 79.

Harry Rogers '22 posted a top-15 finish with his round of 81. He closed well as he shot 38 on the back nine.

Jack Popovich '22 and Nathan Flaherty '22 rounded out GA's competitors with near-identical rounds of 84 and 85, respectively.

The OHSAA State Tournament is a 36-hole event contested over two days. It will be held Friday, Oct. 15, and Saturday, Oct. 16, at The Ohio State University Golf Club's Scarlet Course.

Gilmour finished in third place at last year's state tournament, with Swinarski, Popovich and Rogers all competing in that event. The Lancers have won five state championships in boys golf, most recently taking the top spot in 2010.
