  • The Gilmour Academy Varsity A hockey team defeated Mentor High School 2-0 in the Kent District championship game this past weekend
  • Having won the District title, the Lancers now advance to the OHSAA Frozen Four
  • Gilmour will face St. Edward High School in the state semifinals on Thursday, March 10
  • The semifinal game will take place at Nationwide Arena, home of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, at 4 p.m.
  • Gilmour used goals in the first and third periods and a fantastic defensive effort to beat the Cardinals
  • Viktor Povozhaev '23 opened the scoring by firing a rebound into the net in the final minute of the opening period
  • Matthew Bauman '23 and Shea Hofstrom '22 tallied assists on the play
  • While the Lancers led by just one goal for much of the game, their lead was rarely threatened thanks to a stout defensive effort
  • Ian Anderson '22 tallied a shutout in goal, saving all 17 shots he faced
  • Kyle Laws '22 struck on the power-play past the midway point of the final frame as his wrist shot beat the goaltender short side
  • Gilmour is now 3-2 in playoff meetings against Mentor in the past five seasons
  • Gilmour is 15-2 in its past 17 games overall, dating to mid-January
  • This is the fourth Frozen Four berth in program history, and the second in the past three years
  • The state semifinal will be the fourth meeting between St. Ed's and Gilmour this season
  • The Eagles claimed a 3-2 overtime victory when the two teams met in the Cleveland Cup championship game in mid-February
