The Gilmour Academy 16-U boys hockey team had a successful start to the month of November as the squad competed in upstate New York this past weekend.
Gilmour posted a 3-1 record while playing four games in two days at the Midstate Athletic Community Center in Cicero, N.Y.
The Lancers began the weekend with a 6-4 victory over the Carolina Jr. Hurricanes Saturday afternoon. Johnny Maruna '24 and Jack Rosensteel '25 led the offense with two goals apiece. Clark Furman '23 and Phil Kuchynski '25 each added a goal while Nate Grant '23 made 17 saves to earn the win in net.
After a disappointing loss to Northwood School's varsity team Saturday evening, the Lancers rebounded by claiming a 4-1 win over Northwood Sunday morning.
Furman scored twice in the win over Northwood while Maruna and Rosensteel also found the net again. Connor Varmecky '23 had a fantastic performance in goal, stopping 37 of the 38 shots that were on target.
The Lancers finished off the weekend with a convincing 6-2 win over the Syracuse Nationals.
Nick Arrington '24 and Sam Luan '24 each tallied a multi-goal game with Alex Atchison '23 and Nick Sinani '23 also finding the net. Varmecky earned his second win of the day by making 29 saves.
After a slow start to the season, GA's 16-U team has seemingly found its groove. The Lancers have won eight of their past 11 games, dating to mid-October.
Gilmour will take the upcoming weekend off from competition before hosting Detroit Catholic Central for a two-game series on the weekend before Thanksgiving.
