Gilmour Registers Top-10 Win

The Gilmour Academy boys prep hockey team posted a pair of thrilling victories, including one against a Top-10 national opponent, as the Lancers competed in the Detroit area this past weekend.

The Lancers played a two-game series at Victory Honda 18-U AAA, ranked 10th among all 18-U teams nationally, before contesting a single game against Little Caesars 18-U AAA.

Gilmour tallied a 5-4 victory, via a shootout, in its opening game against Victory Honda Saturday afternoon. In doing so, the Lancers earned a win over a Top-10 national opponent for the first time this season.

Julian Beaumont '22, Hunter Fetterolf '22, Charles McMahon '23 and Vincent Stafford '22 scored for the Lancers in regulation. In the tiebreaking shootout, Beaumont scored for Gilmour while Hadyn Gould '22 stopped all three shots he faced, lifting the Lancers to the win.

Gould, who made 35 saves in regulation, was presented the Golden Dome Award by head coach Mike Chiellino for his heroic performance in the shootout. Beaumont earned the Silver Stick thanks to his shootout winning goal while Drew Lemire '23 earned the Jacket.

Gilmour was held scoreless as it dropped the second game of the series to Victory Honda Sunday morning.

The Lancers then trailed by three goals in the third period in their second game Sunday against Little Caesars, seemingly destined for a losing weekend.

However, Gilmour put together an incredible rally, scoring four times in the final 10 minutes, to post a 5-4 victory in its weekend finale.

Camden Bajzer '22, Logan Cuvo '22, Fetterolf, McMahon and Max Treppo '22 each scored in the win over Little Caesars.

Matiss Bars '22, who made 25 saves overall, earned the team's Golden Dome Award for making a key kick-save and providing an assist on the game-winning goal.

McMahon claimed the Silver Stick Award while Treppo earned the Jacket.

With their 2-1 performance this past weekend, the Lancers are now 7-3 in their past 10 games overall.

Gilmour will return home this coming weekend as they host the Detroit Catholic Central Shamrocks for a two-game series.
