Gilmour Moves to 7-0 in MPHL Play

The Gilmour Academy boys prep hockey team continued its blistering start to conference play as the squad posted a perfect 4-0-0 record this past week.

Gilmour began the week with a come-from-behind victory over the Cleveland Barons in a standalone Mid-Am District contest.

The Lancers then headed to the Pittsburgh suburbs to compete in their second Midwest Prep Hockey League weekend this season. Gilmour won all three of its games over the course of two days to remain perfect in league play this season, improving its record to 7-0 in MPHL play this season.

The Lancers' win over the Barons was a back-and-forth contest that saw GA overcome a late deficit. With Gilmour trailing 3-2 in the final three minutes, Nathan Dowling '22 scored to tie the game and force overtime. Fewer than 15 seconds into the extra session, Dowling struck again to lift Gilmour to a win over its local foe.

In addition to Dowling's two goals, Julian Beaumont '22 and Max Treppo '22 each scored once. Hadyn Gould '22 posted 26 saves in the victory.

Dowling was awarded the Golden Dome Award, given to the GA Player of the Game by head coach Mike Chiellino. Treppo, who added an assist along with his goal, earned the Silver Stick while Dalton Mayes '22 claimed the Jacket.

Gilmour began its MPHL weekend with a 7-3 victory over Lake Forest Academy Prep Saturday afternoon.

Dowling again led the offense, this time producing a hat trick in the victory. Camden Bajzer '22, Liam Clarke '22, Nicholas Guberman '22 and Dawson Lukey '22 each scored once while Matiss Bars '22 made 24 saves in the win.

Bars claimed the Golden Dome Award, Dowling grabbed the Silver Stick and Treppo earned the Jacket.

Gilmour's success continued Saturday evening as it claimed a 5-0 win over Shady Side Acadmey, the host school for the weekend.

Gould posted 22 saves to help Gilmour post its first shutout of the season and subsequently earned the team's Golden Dome Award.

Bajzer, Dowling, Guberman, Charles McMahon '23 and Brandon Paluszak '23 each scored once in the victory at Shady Side. Guberman went on to claim the Silver Stick while Vincent Stafford '22 earned the Jacket.

The Lancers closed the week with a 6-3 win over St. Francis Prep Sunday morning.

For the second straight game, Gilmour used a balanced offensive attack to claim the win.

Bajzer, Beaumont, Logan Cuvo '22, Guberman, Lukey and Paluszak each tallied a goal while Bars posted 15 saves in net.

Bajzer earned the Golden Dome Award as he got the team rolling with a big back check that helped create a goal. Paluszak's nice goal earned him the Silver Stick award while Aidan Cosgrove '22 claimed the Jacket.

Gilmour will resume MPHL play when it hosts its league counterparts on the second weekend of January. In the meantime, the Lancers will return to action this coming weekend with a two-game series at Nichols School.
