Gilmour Shows Signs of Promise at BEAST Showcase

After a tough start to the month of October, the Gilmour Academy boys prep hockey team bounced back with a strong performance in New England this past weekend.

Gilmour went 3-1 at the BEAST Columbus Day Weekend Showcase event, held over three days at various arenas throughout southeastern Massachusetts.

The Lancers began the weekend with a 6-2 win over Boston Hockey Academy Saturday morning.

Nicholas Guberman '22 and Charles McMahon '23 led the offense in the opening game with two goals each. Logan Cuvo '22 and Nathan Dowling '22 each added one goal. Hadyn Gould '22 earned the win in goal by making 28 saves.

Head coach Mike Chiellino awarded the Golden Dome award, given to the GA Player of the Game, to Guberman. McMahon claimed the Silver Stick honor while Brandon Paluszak '23 earned the Jacket award.

Nearly 12 hours after their opening game of the event, the Lancers came back Saturday night and posted a 6-3 win over the Hartford Jr. Wolfpack.

Six different Lancers found the back of the net in the game: Camden Bajzer '22, Liam Clarke '22, Dowling, Guberman, McMahon and Paluszak. Gould posted 30 saves in earning his second win of the day.

McMahon earned the Golden Dome award, Dowling grabbed the Silver Stick and Luke Burke '24 took the Jacket. Burke was called up from the 16-U team for the game and performed well in his first-ever game at the Prep level.

Gilmour returned to the ice Sunday evening and notched a 3-1 win over Philadelphia Hockey Club.

Clarke, Guberman and Vincent Stafford '22 each scored while Gould tallied 20 saves.

Clarke took home the Golden Dome honor, Dalton Mayes' '22 two assists helped him earn the Silver Stick and Stafford grabbed the Jacket.

The Lancers came up short in their final game of the event, dropping a 4-1 decision to Westchester Express. Clarke posted the lone GA goal of the game.

Despite the bitter ending to the showcase, the weekend still had many positives for Gilmour. The Lancers played some quality hockey in a premier event and will look to build on that momentum as they return home this weekend to begin a four-game homestand.
