Gilmour Goes 4-0 to Start League Play

The Gilmour Academy boys prep hockey team had the best possible start to league play as the Lancers went 4-0 this past weekend at Cairns Arena in South Burlington, Vt.

The Lancers used an unrelenting offensive attack to surge past each of their four foes as the Midwest Prep Hockey League held its Kick-Off Showcase.

Gilmour began the weekend with a 7-3 victory over St. Francis Prep. Liam Clarke '22 and Charles McMahon '23 both scored twice while Logan Cuvo '22, Nicholas Guberman '22 and Kyle Mead '22 each added a goal. Matiss Bars '22 made 22 saves to earn the win in goal.

McMahon claimed the team's Golden Dome Award, given to the Player of the Game by head coach Mike Chiellino. The Silver Stick Award was given to Cuvo while Clarke claimed the Jacket Award.

The Lancers returned to the ice Saturday morning and posted a 5-3 win over Lake Forest Academy Prep. Nathan Dowling '22 scored twice while Dawson Lukey '22, McMahon and Simon Rokhlin '22 each scored once. Hadyn Gould '22 tallied 24 saves to get the win in goal.

Guberman claimed the Golden Dome Award, Lukey took home the Silver Stick and Drew Lemire '23 wore the Jacket.

Gilmour returned that evening and held on for a 5-4 victory over the host school, Rice Prep. Clarke had two goals while Lukey, McMahon and Rohklin each scored once. Bars posted 23 saves in the victory.

Aidan Cosgrove '22 was awarded the Golden Dome for providing a strong defensive performance all game. Clarke grabbed the Silver Stick while Max Treppo '22 earned the Jacket.

The Lancers closed the weekend with a 6-2 win over Shady Side Academy Prep on Sunday. Six different Lancers found the net in the win: Camden Bajzer '22, Clarke, Lukey, Mead, Brandon Paluszak '23 and Treppo. Gould contributed 26 saves in earning his second win of the weekend.

Matthew Johnson '22, who put forth a great defensive weekend, earned the Golden Down Award. Mead grabbed the Silver Stick while Hunter Fetterolf '22 claimed the Jacket.

The Lancers' undefeated league weekend gave them nine wins in their past 12 games as they get set to enter the season's third month.
