Greg Hocevar is in his 24th season as an assistant coach for the Gilmour Academy hockey program with the 2021-22 school year. He spent the first 20 years working with the boys prep program before making the move over to the Varsity A team. His main responsibilities include serving as a defensemen coach and general consultant.
Hocevar originally came to Gilmour as a junior varsity baseball coach in 1993, and he remained with the Lancer baseball program until 2005.
An avid athlete, Hocevar was a member of his high school football, baseball, track and wrestling teams. He went on to play club baseball for three years at the collegiate level as a catcher and first baseman. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in accounting from Dyke College and a Master’s degree in international business from Lake Erie College. He also holds a certified purchasing manager (C.P.M.) certificate. Additionally, he has a Level 4 coaching certification from USA Hockey.
Just prior to retirement, Hocevar taught college courses in management and marketing for seven years. He currently resides in Novelty, Ohio with his wife of 51 years, Elaine. They have four children, all of whom are graduates of Gilmour: Greg ’97, Matt ’98, Ryan ’00 and Sarah ’01.
