Title: Program Head Goaltending Coach

Neil Conway is in his third season working with the Gilmour Academy hockey programs with the 2021-22 season. Conway serves as the Head Goaltending Coach for both the Lancer boys and girls programs.

Conway, a USA Hockey Level 4 Coach, has coached at the NCAA Division I level with Colgate University (ECAC) and professionally in Europe in the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga (EBEL), Austria's top professional league. Conway has over 13 years of coaching experience and has been coaching goaltenders in Toronto since the age of 15.

Conway has seen first-hand several different techniques and approaches to the game and has combined them into an effective, efficient practical approach for his goalies. His approach and style of the game emphasize using a modern technical approach with an emphasis on athleticism. Conway believes goaltenders need to leverage their own natural strengths and talents and not every goaltender can nor should play the same way. Conway has his USA Hockey Goalie certification.

Conway grew up in Painesville, Ohio and played for the Mentor Cardinals, Euclid Panthers and CSC Chargers as a youth. He then played for the Cleveland Barons and Pittsburgh Hornets before moving to Stouffville, Ontario at the age of 15 to play at the Jr. A level for the Stouffville Spirit. From there, Conway was drafted to the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and played for the Owen Sound Attack and Oshawa Generals, spending five seasons in the league. He also spent one year with the Green Bay Gamblers (USHL).

Conway then went on to play at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where he completed his Bachelor’s Degree in business. He was a Canadian University Sport national champion during his time in school. Conway played four years of professional hockey in North America as well as in Europe, playing in the ECHL, the EIHL (England) and Series A (Italy).
