Gilmour Posts Wins on Back-to-Back Days

The Gilmour Academy varsity boys lacrosse team cruised to a pair of victories on back-to-back days before suffering a heartbreaking overtime loss as the Lancers played three games in four days last week.

Gilmour began the week by running past Archbishop Hoban High School, posting a 16-2 win at Weber Stadium.

Gilmour led just 2-1 after the opening quarter. The Lancers then reeled off nine consecutive goals before halftime, opening up a double-digit lead on the Knights, and easily held on for the win.

The Bajzer brothers led the way for Gilmour in the win over Hoban, combining for 12 points in the victory. Cam Bajzer '22 had a game-high seven points on the strength of four goals and three assists while Tanyon Bajzer '21 tallied three goals and two assists.

Tate Simpson '21 tied for game-high honors with four goals while Luke Radke '23 finished with two goals and an assist. Alex Atchison '23, Nate Dowling '22 and Nathan Turocy '23 also found the net in the win.

Captain Kessel Richards '21 put forth an admirable effort in goal, stopping 12 of the 14 shots put on goal by Hoban.

One day after taking down Hoban, Gilmour hit the road and produced another offensive outburst in a 15-2 win at Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin School.

Holding a 3-0 lead after the opening quarter, the Lancers exploded for 10 goals in the second stanza to hold a commanding 13-0 lead at intermission. Gilmour did not allow a goal until the fourth quarter in posting its second straight double-figure win.

Cam Bajzer (4g, 2a) and Radke (3g, 3a) each had a hat trick and tied for game high honors with six points.

Tanyon Bajzer and Simpson each scored twice while Dylan Dekoe '21 and Dowling both had multi-point outings.

Richards and Rocco Hice '23 combined to make 12 saves in goal in the win.

Gilmour closed the week by suffering a 9-8 overtime loss at Walsh Jesuit High School. Despite missing multiple starters due to academic commitments, the Lancers held the lead late but were unable to hang on for a third straight win.

Simpson led the way offensively with three goals and an assist. Tanyon Bajzer (1g, 1a), Robby Belknap '21 (2a), Shea Hofstrom '22 (1g, 1a) and Nick Larrabee '21 (2g) each had multiple points.

Richards notched 15 saves to keep the Lancers in the game.

Gilmour's junior varsity squad had a nearly identical week as their varsity counterparts.

The Lancers notched a 15-1 victory over Archbishop Hoban at Weber Stadium.

Johnny Maruna '24 led the way with five points (4g, 1a) while AJ Harris '24 and Zach Wolfe '22 each added a hat trick. Hice not only made four saves in goal but also made a foray into the offensive end and scored a goal himself.

Gilmour's JV team followed that up with an 11-4 victory at NDCL the following night.

Nick Arrington '24 and Brennan Friedman '23 led the way offensively with four and three goals, respectively. Eli Swirsky '23 added a goal and two assists while Hice made five saves in net.

The JV team then ended its week with a 6-5 setback to Walsh Jesuit, only their second loss in 11 games this season.
