Boys Soccer: Varsity Team Defeats Top-Seeded Lake Catholic in Final Regular Season Game

The varsity boys soccer team concluded the regular season on a high note. To begin the week, the Lancers took to the road to defeat Elyria Catholic 3-2. Justin Evans '20 and Connor Underwood '22 both scored off assists from Alexander Beedles '22. The final goal of the game was netted by Bowdan Slabe '20 off an assist by Kyle Laws '22. The Lancers returned home midweek, and lost 1-0 on an own-goal to a tough Andrews Osborne team. Gilmour then went back on the road for the final game of the schedule at rival Lake Catholic. Gilmour upset the top-seeded team in the district 2-0. After a scoreless first half, Kessel Richards '21 opened the offensive attack with a goal on an assist by Cody Tippen '20. Lancer leading scorer Slabe put the game out of reach in the final minutes off an assist by Dorjan Flowers '23. Defensively, Underwood, Laws, Beedles, Eric Brandt '21Michael Giancola '23 and John Stack '23 shut down a powerful Lake Catholic offense, as Matt Beck '21 recorded 10 saves. Gilmour finished the regular season with an overall record of 8-5-3. Slabe ended the season with 13 goals and three assists as the team scored 39 goals this year. Beck recorded five shutouts and 89 saves, while surrendering only 22 goals.

At the junior varsity level, Gilmour ended its season with a 3-0 win over Lake Catholic. Alex Young '21 scored unassisted. Michael Tippen '22 scored off an assist from Eli Swirsky '23 and then Swirsky scored off an assist from Tippen.
