Gilmour Surges Past West Geauga

The Gilmour Academy varsity boys soccer team cruised to a victory in its lone action this past week as the Lancers claimed a 4-1 win over West Geauga High School at a sunny Weber Stadium.

It marked the third four-goal outing of the month for the Lancers, as Alexander Beedles '22 and Carter Richmond '25 were the offensive standouts. The win was also the third in Gilmour's past four matches.

It did not take long for Gilmour to take the lead as Beedles opened the scoring just 42 seconds into the match, with Richmond providing the assist.

The two would combine again with about five minutes remaining in the half to double GA's lead. Richmond found space down the right flank and sent a cross into the box. Beedles beat the onrushing goalkeeper to the ball and pushed it past him into the net.

Before 10 minutes were gone in the second half, Gilmour added a third goal, all but removing the prospect of a Wolverine comeback.

After he surged into the left side of the box, Beedles sent a cross as he was falling to the turf. Kyle Laws '22 was able to beat his defender to the ball and push it into the net.

West Geauga did get on the scoreboard with just under 15 minutes to play, but the guests' momentum would be short-lived.

Richmond followed by sending in a beautiful ball on a corner kick, and his outswinging service was met by the head of Triston Sherwood '23. Sherwood's header was too powerful for the goalie to keep out, and Gilmour once again led by three.

Nathan Nootbaar '22 finished with four saves in the victory for Gilmour.

Richmond's three assists gave him a team-leading six for the season. Meanwhile, Beedles' pair of strikes pushed his team-topping tally to 13.

Gilmour will close out its home slate with a pair of fixtures in the first week of October.
