Gilmour Finishes Regular Season on Strong Note

The Gilmour Academy varsity boys soccer team ended the regular season on a positive note as the Lancers rebounded from a loss early in the week to win their final two matches leading into the playoffs.

Gilmour played three road matches in the span of five calendar days last week, with their two wins coming in contrasting styles.

The Lancers opened the week with a visit to Thomas W. Harvey High School on Tuesday night and dropped a 3-0 decision.

Gilmour trailed just 1-0 for much of the match before the host Red Raiders added two insurance goals in the final 10 minutes of the contest. Kyle Laws '22 had nearly tied the match earlier in the second half with a curling effort from 16 yards out, but the Harvey goalkeeper made a diving save to keep his team in front.

The Lancers then visited Walsh Jesuit High School Thursday evening. Gilmour came away with a 1-0 win in a match that had been postponed from August due to weather.

The match at Walsh was a hard-fought, back-and-forth contest that was scoreless nearly the entire way. GA captain Alexander Beedles '22 ensured that the ending was thrilling for GA fans as his goal with just three minutes left propelled Gilmour to the win. His goal was one his trademark strikes as he wove his way through three defenders before beating the goalie with a low shot inside the far post. Eli Swirsky '23 tallied the assist on the winning goal.

Nathan Nootbaar '22 posted eight saves to earn his second shutout of the season. Ian Baird '23, Michael Giancola '23, Andrew Minder '24, John Stack '23 and Michael Tippen '22 played fabulous defense all night for the Lancers to help keep the clean sheet.

Gilmour's victory over Walsh was only the second such occurrence for the boys soccer program.

Gilmour then closed out the regular season with a 6-3 victory at Keystone High School this past weekend.

Beedles led the offense, notching two goals and two assists, while Carter Richmond '25 also scored twice. Laws and Joe Delaney '24 each also scored once.

Jonathan Berkovich '22 and Nootbaar, from his goaltender position, each added an assist.

With the regular season now complete, Gilmour will open its postseason at home by welcoming Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin School to Weber Stadium.
