CJ Johnson '22 of the Gilmour Academy boys track and field team qualified for the OHSAA State Championships this past weekend.

Johnson qualified for the state meet in the shot put by virtue of his performance at the Massillon Perry Regional meet.

Competing in a loaded field, Johnson placed fifth at the regional meet with a mark of 52 feet, 3.25 inches, a mark he achieved on his final attempt of the competition. His distance, a new personal best, was enough for him to secure an at-large berth to the state meet.

Johnson also competed at the regional meet in the discus, where he placed 12th with a mark of 110 feet, 6 inches.

Scott Vergilii '23 was the other Lancer to compete in the regional meet for Gilmour. He placed 14th in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:12.20.

Johnson will compete at the OHSAA State Championships at Westerville North High School on Friday, June 4.
