Title: Assistant Coach - Varsity Boys and Girls

Monroe Hillsman, a 19-year coaching veteran, serves as an assistant coach for Gilmour’s boys and girls track & field teams. He primarily coaches throwing events while also assisting with other disciplines as well.

During the 2021 season, Hillsman helped a pair of Lancer throwers, CJ Johnson and Mackezie Palinski, to OHSAA State Championship berths. Palinski broke Gilmour’s shot put and discus records during her GA career and went on to sign with NCAA Division I Brown University.

Prior to Gilmour, Hillsman coached at several other area schools, including Shaw High School, Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School, Cleveland Heights High School and his alma mater Euclid High School. While at Euclid, Hillsman coached Rashida Harris, who went on to earn First Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors while at the University of Louisville. Harris also qualified for the USA Olympic Trials.

Other notable athletes Hillsman has coached include: Donnie Fletcher, a former member of the New York Jets, C.J. Germany, a former member of the Los Angeles Rams and Marvelle Ross, a former member of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Hillsman was a multi-event athlete as a student-athlete for NCAA Division I Robert Morris University in suburban Pittsburgh. He was a member of RMU’s first men’s indoor conference championship team in 1998, where he scored in both throws and hurdles. Hillsman also took bronze in the men’s discus at the 2000 Northeast Conference Outdoor Championships. Hillsman was also a member of the Colonial football team, helping the squad to back-to-back Mid-Major National Championships at the I-AA level. He would go on to work out as an NFL, CFL and AFL free agent in his time after Robert Morris.

Hillsman competed at multiple indoor and outdoor state track & field meets while attending Euclid High School. He continues to hold school records at Euclid and was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in 2014. Hillsman also won bronze in the discus at the AAU National Championships in 1994.

Hillsman graduated from Euclid in 1997 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Robert Morris in 2002.
