The Gilmour Academy cross country program has had to adjust to an ever-changing schedule for the 2020-21 season. With a number of large invitationals canceled per the safety recommendations from the Ohio Department of Health, including Gilmour's annual Paul Primeau Invitational, the Lancers have a few much-smaller meets on the docket. One such meet was the season opener, which was held on campus.

The boys team welcomed Lutheran West and Orange in what turned out to be an exciting and close battle between the teams. The course was full of mud and puddles of water after two days of downpours turned the campus into a swamp. The Lancers were not deterred and they came away with second-place honors. The final score was Lutheran West 34, Gilmour 45, Orange 48. The youthful Lancer squad was led by Scott Vergilii '23 (pictured) with a fourth-place finish. Three other Lancers finished in the top eight with gutsy finishes, including Tim Papczun '24 (sixth), Michael Piccarillo '24 (seventh) and Alexander Beedles '22 (ninth). Andrew Lewis '23 (24th) and Ben Lindley '24 (28th) rounded out the scoring for Gilmour.

The girls ran second and came away with a perfect score against Hathaway Brown, Lutheran West and Orange. The Lancer top seven all placed in the top nine individually, led by Amy Weybrecht '24 (pictured), who took home individual honors in the first high school race of her career. The remainder of the top five comprised a mix of veterans and newcomers with Mary Lombardo '22 (second), Kaitlin Rulison '23 (third), Mia Polisena '22 (fourth), Gia Rosko '24 (fifth), Ava Moe '22 (eighth) and Anna Lisac '24 (ninth) giving the Lancers the 15-point shutout over the other squads.
