Boys Cross Country Finishes Season Sixth at District Championship

The Gilmour Academy varsity boys cross country team ended their season with an impressive sixth-place finish in the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Division III District Championship Meet at Madison High School, on Saturday, October 24.

The Lancers faced tough competition, but held their own against 19 veteran teams at Madison.  Scott Vergilli '23 led the team as he finished 28th in 19:04.08, and Michael Piccirillo '24 followed closely in 29th with a time of 19:16.65.  Ross Halloran '22 placed 30th and Tim Papczun '24 finished 35th, while Andrew Lewis '23 (58th) and Ben Lindley '24 (66th) rounded out the scoring with career-best times.

Head Coach Matt Lindley '89 was proud of the team's efforts this year, "This was a season of growth for the young Lancers squad, and the future looks bright!"

With a core composed of mostly underclassmen, the team came together quickly and improved with each race this fall. The boys will return all runners for the 2021 season.
