Gilmour Softball Recognized for Academic Success

The Gilmour Academy softball team was recently recognized for its success away from the field by the Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association (OHSFSCA).

Gilmour earned a Team Academic Award from the organization. The Lancer varsity program had the third-highest team grade point average, in the non-weighted category, among programs from all divisions in Ohio.

Gilmour had a 3.860 team GPA and was less than .02 points behind the top team in its category. The top five teams in both the weighted and non-weighted category are recognized with the award and receive a plaque for their accomplishment.

All players on the varsity team who receive a varsity letter for the season are used to determine the overall team GPA. The GPA that is used is the player's GPA that she obtained for the first semester of the school year.

Twelve Lancers on the roster posted a GPA of at least 4.0 to help GA earn the team award.

Additionally, 10 Lancers were named as OHSFSCA Scholar-Athletes for their individual academic achievement. The Scholar-Athlete award is given to juniors and seniors who have previously lettered and who maintain at least a 3.50 unweighted GPA.

Gilmour's OHSFSCA Scholar-Athletes are: Brinn MacLellan '21, Cayla See '21, Megan Mlinaric '22, Sammi Fedeli '22, Emmy Klika '21, Maggie Dean '22, Sophia Cira '21, Taylor Stirling '22, Hannah Weltle '21 and Alaina Giampietro '22.

The Lancers finished with an 11-4 record this past season that included a nine-game winning streak. Gilmour advanced to the OHSAA District Tournament before dropping a tough 11-9 decision to three-time defending state champion Champion High School.
