Paul Byrne is in his eighth season as an assistant coach with the Gilmour Academy softball program with the 2022 season. He is an integral part of the daily practice operations and serves as the team's first base coach during games.

Byrne is a graduate of Mayfield High School where he was a letterwinner in football. He continued his education at the Cuyahoga Community College State of Ohio Fire Academy and received his State of Ohio EMT certification from Richmond General Hospital. He then gave 32 years of service with the Mayfield Village Fire Department before retiring. He also spent 20 years as a service department laborer and groundskeeper for Mayfield Village.

Prior to coaching at Gilmour Academy, Byrne spent several seasons with the Mayfield City School District as a coach with the middle school, junior varsity and varsity softball teams. He also coached with the Hot Sox travel program, serving as a head coach at both the U-12 and U-14 levels.

Byrne is a member of St. Francis of Assisi and is a 27-year resident of Mayfield Heights. He has two daughters, Carli, who is in Austin, Texas, studying for her doctorate in physical therapy, and Lauren, a University of Dayton graduate in marketing and communications.
