Girls Basketball Begins 2020-21 Campaign

The Lancer varsity girls basketball team started their 2020-21 season on a high note, as they defeated Cornerstone Christian Academy and Lutheran East High School in dominant fashion.

The girls kicked off the season against Cornerstone. The young Lancer team started the game strongly, and never looked back as they defeated the Patriots 64-40. Angelina Lonardo '22 led the team in scoring with 15 points, as she sank multiple 3-pointers against Cornerstone.  Lauryn Stover '22 contributed 14 points and Katie Puletti '24 scored nine in her high school basketball debut.

Their high-powered offense was on display once more, as the Lancers beat Lutheran East 57-42 in the following game. Outside shooting was effective again for the team, as Madeline Martino '22 hit a couple 3-pointers in the second half. Martino led the Lancers in scoring against the Falcons with 13 points. Stover also added nine for the team.

Last week the Lancers fell to two tough opponents, losing tight battles against Wadsworth High School and Perry High School. Playing against top teams in the area, the Lancers were competitive in both games until the very end. Ultimately, the team lost to Wadsworth 51-39 and Perry 49-44. Cooper Flowers '22 led the Lancers in scoring against Wadsworth with 17 points, as she scored several baskets inside the paint. Stover had a dominant offensive performance against Perry, leading the team in scoring with 18 points.

Now 2-2 on the season, the Lancers will host Brush High School next on Saturday, December 19 at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Fans of the girls basketball program can click here to watch the junior varsity and varsity contests on Saturday.
