Lancer Varsity Girls Basketball Wins Three Straight, Hosts Hoban Next

The Lancer varsity girls basketball team has won three straight games against strong opponents, and found their stride going into the last few weeks of the regular season.

The Lancers' winning streak began on the road against Beaumont on Saturday, January 16, as they defeated the Bluestreaks 63-57. In what proved to be a high-scoring game, the Lancer offense was led by freshman Katie Puletti '24, who scored a career-high 20 points. Guard Nicci Finazzo '24 and post Cooper Flowers '22 each chipped in with 11 points against Beaumont.

The team then traveled to Lutheran East to participate in the Friends 4 Life Invitational, where the Lancers took on the Tigers of Cleveland Heights on Monday, January 18. Gilmour gained a lead in the first quarter and never looked back, as they defeated Cleveland Heights 64-32. In a dominant offensive display, Lauryn Stover '22 led the team in scoring with 20 points. Stover's impressive performance also earned her the Friends 4 Life Invitational Team MVP Award.  Other top scorers for the Lancers were Madeline Martino '22, who added 15 points, and Flowers, who chipped in nine points against the Tigers.

On Wednesday, January 20, the Lancers defeated the Padua Bruins on the road 48-25. The team's defensive pressure proved to be too much for the Bruins, as Megan Duffy '21 and Finazzo caused several turnovers in Padua's backcourt, which led to easy buckets for the Lancers. The team's well-balanced offense was led by Stover (11 points), Duffy (nine points), and Puletti (nine points).

Now 9-6 on the season, the Lancers will host Archbishop Hoban High School next on Saturday, January 23 19 at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Fans of the girls basketball program can click here to watch the junior varsity and varsity contests on Saturday.
