Stover Named All-Ohio Honorable Mention

Lauryn Stover '22 of the Gilmour Academy girls basketball team was named Division II All-Ohio Honorable Mention as the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association released their annual All-Ohio teams.

Stover was one of five Lancers in the girls basketball program to claim postseason recognition from a media organization.

Stover led the Lancers in both scoring (11.0) and rebounding (7.0) during the 2021-22 season. She also topped the squad in steals (73) and blocks (34) and had was the top free throw shooter (73%) during the season (min. 10 made free throws). Stover was also second on the team in assists with 54. She nearly tallied a triple-double in her final game as a Lancer, posting 16 points, 14 rebounds and seven steals in an OHSAA District Final against Norton High School. She also produced a 24-point, 10-rebound performance in the Senior Day win over Andrews Osborne Academy.

Stover was also named All-Northeast Lakes District Second Team and a News-Herald Second Team All-Star, with the latter award encompassing all four divisions into a single honoree list. She has signed to play at Division I Purdue Fort Wayne next season.

Nicci Finazzo '24, Angelina Lonardo '22, Madeline Martino '22 and Katie Puletti '24 each earned All-District Honorable Mention accolades at the conclusion of the season. Finazzo, Martino and Puletti were also tabbed to the News-Herald's Honor Roll list of all-stars.

Finazzo averaged 7.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game as she guided the Gilmour offense. Her 70 total assists led the team while her 61 steals were third among all Lancers. Finazzo shot an impressive 54.1 percent from the floor over the course of the season and also topped the team with 79 deflections. She netted 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists in a win over John Hay High School in February.

Lonardo averaged 7.2 points and 2.3 rebounds during her final season as a Lancer. She led the team with 30 made three-pointers, shooting 33 percent overall from distance. Lonardo also chipped in with 28 assists and 30 steals on the season. In one of her better performances of the campaign, she led Gilmour with 18 points while also adding six rebounds against Hathaway Brown School.

Martino was second on the team in both scoring and rebounding for Gilmour, averaging 8.9 points and 5.2 caroms per outing. Her 69 steals and 27 three-pointers were both second on the team, and she also finished third on the squad in assists (52). In a Dec. 8 win over Beaumont School, Martino tied the GA single-game record for steals as she tallied nine thefts. She also scored a team-high 17 points in a District semifinal win over Revere High School.

Puletti was third on the team in scoring, averaging 8.3 per game, while also tallying 2.6 rebounds per contest. She shot a blistering 56.6 percent from the field during the season, including leading the team with her 40 percent mark from downtown. She also added 37 steals and 28 assists while missing a chunk of the season due to injury. Puletti finished with a team-high 17 points, including a 3-for-3 mark from distance, against northeast Ohio power Olmsted Falls High School.

The Lancers won 16 games this past season and finished as District runners-up after dropping an overtime contest to eventual state Final Four qualifier Norton in the District final. Gilmour has now played in a District final in 13 of the past 14 seasons.
