Julie Solis is in her fourth season as the head coach of the Gilmour Academy girls varsity basketball team with the 2021-22 school year.

In her first year with the Lancers, the team was a Division II district finalist after posting 15 wins. After finishing as a district semifinalist in 2020, the Lancers returned to a district final in 2021, losing the game to an eventual state qualifier. Solis has posted a 42-33 record in her first three seasons at Gilmour.

Prior to Gilmour, Solis was the head coach of several highly successful girls basketball programs at Twinsburg High School (2009-18) and Solon High School (2004-09) after beginning her coaching career as the varsity girls head coach at Cloverleaf High School (2001-04).

During her 20 years as a high school girls basketball coach, Solis has compiled an overall varsity record of 361-139, posting 12 seasons of 18-plus victories. She has earned 16 coach of the year honors at the state, district, county and conference levels, as well as within the media. She was also named Coach of the Decade by the News Herald for the period spanning 2011-20.

Solis has directed teams to two OHSAA Division I State Championships (2011, 2012), two OHSAA Division I State Runner-Up finishes (2006, 2013), four OHSAA Division I Regional Championships (2006, 2011, 2012, 2013), as well as nine regional final appearances and 12 district final appearances.

She is a 20-year member of the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association (OHSBCA), a 17-year member of the Greater Cleveland Basketball Coaches Association (GCBCA), a 17-year member of the NFHS Coaches Association and a 14-year member of the Tri-County Coaches Association.

As a player, Solis played four years of varsity basketball at Chippewa High School. She was inducted into the school’s hall of fame in 2008 and the Wayne County Hall of Fame in 2012. She continued her basketball career at the collegiate level, playing four years at Hiram College, earning Academic All-Conference honors for the Terriers. She still holds the school records for career assists per game and career minutes per game. Solis was inducted into the Hiram Hall of Fame in 2013.

Solis has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with departmental honors from Hiram. Additionally, she owns a master’s degree in sports management from Ashland University.

Solis has two children, Trevor (20) and Rylee (12). She is employed as a 7th grade social studies teacher at Twinsburg High School where she also serves as the Middle School head track and field coach.
