The Lancers girls prep hockey team hosted four games last weekend - two against Culver Academy and two against Team Illinois.
The girls prep team went 1-1 against Culver Academy, as the Lancers won 2-0 on Friday night. Cailin Schwarzer '22 and Alaina Giampietro '22 each scored for the Lancers, and Lea Morrissette '22 had a shutout in the net.
Head coach Seanna Conway was proud of her team's performance on Friday night.
"The girls are always pumped to play Culver. They respect and love that the tradition goes beyond their own experience at GA, years before they were even here. They worked hard, tested a great goaltender, and came through on top," said Conway.
On Saturday morning, the Lancers and Culver faced off again. At the end of regulation, they were tied 2-2. On a last-minute play in overtime, Culver scored and defeated the Lancers 3-2 in a thrilling battle.
The Lancers only had hours to recover from their close loss against Culver, as they traveled to North Olmsted Recreation Center on Saturday evening to compete against a strong Team Illinois. Battling injuries, the Lancers struggled defensively and ultimately lost the game 5-0. On Sunday morning, the team was back on the ice for round two against Team Illinois, this time at Gilmour's Floyd E. Stefanski Ice Center. The team played a much more competitive game against Team Illinois' fierce offensive attack, but lost 2-0.
The Lancers girls prep team will get a well-deserved break for the holidays, and return to competition in the new year.
